  1. per codingbook v58.30 should not be used for non surgical infection or necrosis.
    the first 2 diagnoses open wound and MRSA will already indicate the needed wound dressing which for this scenario is a trauma wound.

    please update us on this guideline.

  2. Evelyn, you are correct that there is a coding guideline that says not to use a surgical wound aftercare code with a complicated surgical wound. In one of the coding books, there is indeed a “coding tip” that says it is not necessary for any complications. Keep in mind that coding tips are a bit different from coding guidelines and while the V58.30 may not be totally necessary, I felt that it was an important part of this scenario.
