  1. I really enjoy the coding tips of the month in your newsletter. However, i think there was a typo in the coding of absence of joint as V46.3 which is actually w/c dependence vs V43.6 which is absence of joint

  2. Why is 996.77 being used instead of 996.66?

  3. Would it be ok to also use V58.81?

  4. Pat,you are correct that use of V46.3 was just a typo but as I reviewed it, I realized that I probably did not need to use the V43.6 code either.  Even though this was done it Sept, it was meant to be the correct coding sequence for 2012.  The new guidelines require us to use the V88.22 code after an explantation to indicated which joint was removed.  There is no guidance that you would also need to add the V43.6 code also.  Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

  5. James, thank you for responding to the tip.  Use of 996.66 is the correct code.  Thank you for bringing this to my attention.  As for the the V58.81, note that the scenario indicates that there are antibiotic spacers in place rather than IV antibiotics.
